How to start crochet?
The most common mistake by beginners is to directly jump into complicated patterns. This can lead to discouragement and disappointment ; "Oh, this is so hard, i can't do it","this is not for me.""why should i do so much hard work?! when i can buy out side." etc. or you may feel it to be time consuming task.
But it is not difficult or easy as you think. Crochet is of course easy if you follow the basics first and be thorough with it. Usually beginners watch basic stitches like single crochet and double crochet videos on youtube and conclude, "this is easy, i can do this." without practicing basics thoroughly and directly jump into projects. Then it will be difficult to follow the instructions, "what is slip stitch? why they have to follow the counting?.. etc". As a result, loose interest in project and quit.
So I am going start with this topic today.
Crochet is very easy and you can make many projects with basic skills such as, simple single or double crochet stitches. The main point you have to keep in mind is;
- How to hold crochet hook and wool? : It is really an important factor. It is totally up to you how to hold the crochet hook as per your comfort.But when you grab the yarn, you should be careful that it is not too tight or loose. You should hold it in such a way that the yarn flows in your hand continuous.
- When you end the line?, how to switch to next line?: One more mistake that beginners do is focusing only on stitch and not on ending; "which stitch should I enter to make perfect straight edge or how many stitches I should take extra". This may need considerable practice and concentration . "Practice makes perfect".one more simple solution is counting stitches. It will help to keep your edges strait.
- Practice well and begin with simple projects: When you are confident enough, try some simple projects like place mats, ear warmer, coasters. or scarf. Do not hurry to make complicated lacy shawls or dresses ( If you are confident enough and determined to complete the project, then go ahead). Use multi color yarn instead of using single color.which will make your work more beautiful and earn compliment.
